Re: DPI and Export Bitmap
or a written note from you :) I was thinking something similar… smoke signals... or some sort of interpretative dance perhaps. It is a slightly strange concept though, ie how many of one type of dots (ppi) do I need to get the best quality output of another type of completely unrelated dots (dpi). ...

Re: DPI and Export Bitmap
I was pretty happy with the direction we were heading as signified by Similarius’ post of October 18 especially this bit “the fundamental thing you need to get down is that pixel size is not a measure of physical size until you associate a dpi with it” and this bit “most of the time we infer a dpi (...

Re: Inkscape Frequently Asked Questions - please read!
Uuhhmm....100 px = 1.111 inches. When I look in Export Bitmap dialog, 90 DPI makes a 100 px image; 270 DPI makes a 300 px image. 300 px = 3.333 inches. I don’t quite follow this. Can’t you just open your drawing in Inkscape, go up to the Tool Controls Bar and check what the width and height are in ...

Re: Saving as PDF - what's happening here?
Thank you for helping me with this and thanks for taking the effort to reply in a manner which is relatively understandable to a newbie - special thanks for pointing out that there was a problem with all 3 ellipses. I thought the resolution to the issue might have something to do with converting the...

Saving as PDF - what's happening here?
I have a basic shape which some of you may recognise as being the bottom part of a subbuteo figure. On my Inkscape screen and when I export it as a bitmap (png) it looks like this: http://www.abload.de/img/basebitmap79xeq.png But when I save it as a PDF it looks like this (Adobe Reader 9): http://ww...

Re: Inkscape Frequently Asked Questions - please read!
Brynn, with your example what is the actual size in inches/cms/mms of your two images? That’s the key question - whether the actual size of the image stays the same no matter whether you export as a bitmap (png) at 90 dpi or 300 dpi (irrespective of what happens to the pixel dimensions) - isn’t it? ...

Re: Inkscape Frequently Asked Questions - please read!
This is a pretty crucial issue. Isn’t it? I’m surprised there isn’t a more definitive answer available. I can’t believe that people are only using Inkscape to make designs that are to be solely viewed on computer monitors (in which case the default 90 dpi would suffice… or, as has been pointed out, ...

Re: Another newbie needing help - old style football
chriswww, thanks for giving this some thought. I can remember at the time trying the “swap fill and stroke” function – but it didn’t do what you’d think it would. I also played around with the alpha image filters. The trick is Brynn’s suggestion above – it’s almost like using my original design as a...

Re: Another newbie needing help - old style football
If you remove the color from the ellipse and paths, it will disappear, unless you have another color somewhere, to contrast. The coloured tshirt underneath will be the contrasting colour. Here are the steps, using that exact drawing: 1 - Duplicate the drawing (to save an original copy, just in case...

Re: Another newbie needing help - old style football
Brynn, thanks for your prompt and considered response. ....well, first, I need to clarify something. If the t-shirt color will be the outline, then the rest of the shirt will have to be another color, right? So will that just be a large rectangle or something? I'm sorry but my original instructions ...

Another newbie needing help - old style football
I've only discovered Inkscape over the last couple of weeks - it's extremely addictive. I hope someone can help me. I've drawn an old style football/soccer ball. I just used an ellipse for the outside of the ball and the bezier tool to draw the outline of the curved panels inside the ball. I specifi...
