Re: Text box borders
I don't think you can put a border on the text box itself. You'll have to put a rectangle around it:

Re: Importing large pdfs
I just tried creating a pdf that is 300x600 meters.
I didn't have any problems taking it back into Inkscape and edit it again.
There is probably some sort of incompatibility between the inkscape pdf importer and the program that made your pdf file.

Re: how to extract images without the background
now is it possible to fill a specific area with all the gears i extracted (of various diameter) without overlapping each other and without leaving too much space? I'm not sure.. I guess you could play around with tiled clones, but it may well be that doing it manually will be quicker. http://wiki.i...

Re: how to extract images without the background
Never mind the triple click, click once and press ctrl-shift-g to ungroup all those gears. Then select what you want to export. The triple click enters the group and selects the object or group under the cursor - why not use it? It seemed to me that is was there he ran into trouble. Actually ungrou...

It may be a good idea to group your selection now for easier handling. ctrl-g You need to know the final size of the image, if you don't the dpi value is irrelevant. dpi me...

Re: Improve usability of line markers (change colour)
I agree. Or why not just make it default to the colour of the line?

How hard can it be? Set the size of your object (at the mouse cursor in the screenshot) then the dpi in the export dialogue.

Raise to top has always worked for me. Maybe someone could spot the issue if you provide the file.

Re: Can't get filter effects to upload to blog with png file
Does the header look ok if you open it in for example Gimp?
If it does, maybe you have black shadows on a black background.
If it doesn't I guess you made a mistake when you exported it. (maybe used "selection" option in the export dialogue and didn't have the shadow objects selected)

Re: how to extract images without the background
Select the white part, then the green part below, then hold the ctrl key and press dash (-) on your keyboard. Instead of the keyboard shortcut you can use the "difference" option on the curve menu. The gears2.jpg link only shows hamburger ads, no gears. So you will have to do the work your...

Re: Question about image opacity.
If you mean a bitmap image, it would probably be best to do that in Gimp or a similar program.

For registered members , only their first 2 messages are moderated. After that, registered members' messages are posted immediately upon submission. Are you sure it's two? When I made this topic it got through instantly, but it must have been my fourth post. I didn't quite know what to make of that...

Is it really necessary to have a moderator review every single post? It slows down a discussion tremendously if you have to wait six hours or so before your message appears.
Why not just remove posts that aren't ok? With captchas at the registration, spamming from bots should be minimal anyway.

Create a rectangle and two ovals. It's important that they have the same width. (can be set in one of the toolbars at the top of the window)
Arrange them like so:

Select font directory
My OS comes with lots of asian fonts that are nice to have when browsing web pages, but when I'm working in Inkscape they just get underfoot.
I keep all my downloaded fonts in ~/.fonts/ and it would be nice if I could tell Inkscape to only show them in the font selector.
