Re: Add an alpha gradient to a pattern.
Yes, it sounds like Xav has nailed it. I've used masks quite a bit, but never with alphas. It sounds like this will work brilliantly. Thanks everyone!

Add an alpha gradient to a pattern.
Is there a way to make a pattern fade way near the edges? The fill dialog makes it look like patterns and gradients are mutually exclusive, but I thought I'd ask whether anyone knows a way of applying a gradient alpha channel on top of a pattern. This might be beyond the scope of inkscape (although ...

Re: warping or duplicating images
@brynn - I was just referring to the image of a road that I described in the previous statement.
@druban - the road pattern started out as vector-based, but was too complex to use in that form. Thanks for the suggestions though. I've gotten around this limitation for my current application...

warping or duplicating images
Hey folks, I'm having a hard time finding a way of doing something that I suspect Inkscape is capable of handling: I have a rectangular image representing one slice of a road (from a top-down perspective). I'd like to create a network of curved roads that look like this image. However, I haven't fou...

As a quick update, the first 16 levels of Twenty Twelve are available free to play at http://sugarpillstudios.com/twentytwelve/. There is also a video trailer available at http://youtu.be/F7EjhqvyiFs. I'm also shooting for a full release in July on XBox360 and Windows7Phone.

Re: unnatural y coordinates
I'm not sure what your goal is in this, but you could certainly use your group transform trick and then also apply a scale(1 -1) to the text element (or use the vertical flip icon) to make it right side up again.

Re: Extension to break apart paths into non-overlapping subp
If I understand your problem correctly, I think the most difficult part will be determining which sub-paths are overlapping. Depending on how your data is laid out, this could be easy (comparing bounding boxes or circles), or it could be more difficult (finding slight overlaps within the curvature o...

Interesting... I may be getting a Mac sometime in the next few months, and will have to try this out when I do.
Btw, I second ~suv's suggestion of looking through the extensions that come with Inkscape.

...to auto-clean them when no longer referenced (gradients, filters)... Are you saying that gradients and filters are already being automatically cleaned by Inkscape? Or is this a feature that needs to be turned on somehow? Here's what I tried (w/o success) to test this. In a new document (running ...

Re: Scalable Bar Chart?
I think you'll need to go through and make these alignments on at a time. Re: I would like it so that the lines of the axes are aligned so that they are always next to the labels. 1) select the left bar, and then hold shift to also select the numbers 2) click the upper-left icon in the alight and di...

Automating Vacuum Defs
Figuring out when I should use the Vacuum Defs command is not very intuitive. In addition to knowing what features are stored as defs, you kind of have to keep track of how often objects using such features are modified or deleted. Or you can wait until your svg file is sufficiently bloated, or unti...

Re: busy forum, growing community, thanks :-)
It seems like there have been a few "hot" applications that people have been asking about and commenting on lately: laser cutting and html5 applications. It has been a great tool to work with, so I'd also like to share in this thanks to the devs for all of their ongoing hard work.

Thanks for giving it a try brynn. And I apologize for the Silverlight trouble... it's frustrating that the process doesn't run more smoothly. There are currently eight levels available, and the last four will be replaced by eight different levels on Easter morning. I'll send you a private email with...

Twenty Twelve
I recently started soliciting feedback on a puzzle game that I've been using Inkscape to develop: http://sugarpillstudios.com/twentytwelve/ . In addition to using inkscape for the artwork, I've also been using it as a level editor (managing collision bounds, object attributes, code bindings, etc). I...

Re: Saving stroke/fill styles
You could write an inkscape extension to do this! I've been doing something similar, and posted an article about figuring how how to make this work a few months ago: http://sugarpillstudios.com/wp/?p=142

Aligning Clipped and Masked Images
I recently noticed that when aligning masked images, the original un-masked image's dimensions are used. When using clipped images, the newly clipped dimensions are used instead, but not immediately. When an image is clipped, the size of it's selection box stays the size of the full image for a bit....

Re: Plugin Feasibility?
1) I believe that the built in extension system only seems to allow running extensions from the extension menu. I think you'll have to poke through the source code of Inkscape to add this kind of hook. 2) Answer above + extensions receive vector data to operate on, so you'll have to rasterize it you...

Re: Multiple Images on one file - how to seperate
I don't know of a built in way to do this(?). Depending on your scripting/technology abilities, you might be able to have a script save each layer from an svg file into a separate file.
