Yes, this (Inkscape-0.48.2-1-SNOWLEOPARD.dmg) is the most current official Inkscape package for (Mac) OS X available - it runs on Snow Leopard and later versions of OS X (including Mountain Lion).

Please read this answer in the Inkscape FAQ before installing Inkscape on Mountain Lion.

I would also recommend «Some quick tips for Inkscape on OS X» as additional reading for new Inkscape users on OS X.

If you feel like testing unstable packages: see the footnote here (and this comment in the topic “The Inkscape Community Announces 0.48.4 Release”) about the latest release candidate for a newer OS X package (0.48.4) which no longer depends or requires X11/XQuartz. The latest release candidate of that package has still several known issues, and has not yet progressed to an official package hosted at sf.net.

hi.

I cannot make the extension work. I have wandered on many blog. I get the usual outdated error message: "The fantastic lxml wrapper for libxml2 is required by inkex.py and therefore this extension. Please download and install the latest version from http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/lxml/, or install it through your package manager by a command like: sudo apt-get install python-lxml"

it seems this message was seen in earlier release of inkscape with os 10.6.8 and do not tell anything about the real problem.

the old trick: rm -r /Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/python
and:
sudo easy_install lxml
sudo easy_install numpy

does not work either. Any clues ???
I also read: The OS X packages include lxml for 4 python (intel) versions (2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6)
os 10.8 is on python 2.7.2, can it be the problem?

Read this earlier topic: "where to find what's needed for extensions OS X".
