Hi,
I'm a newbie to Inkscape, and I hope I'm opening this thread in the appropriate category.
I just installed the latest version of Inkscape 0.48.4 on my Linux machine with Mint 15 and Mate 1.6.0. (Also, I'm using compiz,if this is of any interest).

As soon as I click into the application, my mouse pointer converts into a spinning wheel as if would work on something, but the spinning never stops. Strange enough, I can actually click buttons and the menu, but the spinning mouse is of course very annoying.

To make things worse, the mouse keeps spinning outside Inkscape, too, even when I exit Inkscape. I tried to let it run for as long as 15 minutes, but it never returned to normal.

During my first install, I received an error message related to PostgreSQL installation. Since I don't need it, I uninstalled both PostgreSQL and Inkscape, and did a clean re-install of Inkscape, which worked since any error messages.

Also, I'm working on a rather powerful machine with 16 GB RAM and an 8 core processor.

I'm aware that real "bugs" should be reported on launchpad, but since I'm really a total newbie to Inkscape, I was hoping that somebody might have some advice or a workaround for me.

I figured that it is a conflict between InkScape and compiz. When I deactivate compiz, InkScape behaves normally.

Just another comment: I am also using Gimp, Blender, LibreOffice, RapidMiner (all rather "fancy" programs), but none of them shows any conflict with compiz. I also reported this issue on launchpad https://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/238296

I'm using Mint 17 Qiana with Inkscape 0.48+devel r (Aug 5 2014).

I tried to use devel because all other versions are presenting the same problem...
