Hi,
I'm looking for a person willing to draw a logo for an international non-profit website regarding FLOSS. I prefer the logo to be distributed under GPL/Creative Commons licence, logo author will be mentioned at the "About" page of the website. The logo has to be simple, like Inkscape one, falling well into memory
For details please contact me at PM. I don't know how many volounteers will write to me, maybe none, maybe hundreds of them so it is possible that I won't reply to all.
Best regards,
teel
A website needs a logo
Re: A website needs a logo
A logo/design/layout/CI etc shouldn't be licensed under free/open license.
All that stuff has one single purpose: recognition/brand-awareness. And that obviously doesn't work if it's used on a zillion other pages... and even worse... it can damage your reputation. Some will think you stole it or they may think you're affiliated with some group you don't want to be affiliated with.
It really doesn't make any sense to use a permitting license for this kind of thing. It never did and it never will be.
>For details please contact me at PM.
The biggest problem is the idea itself. While many here can create some kind of logo only a few will have a good idea for a specific topic. So, why should one go through all the trouble of contacting you if the chances of getting a good idea are totally unknown? I doubt that anyone will contact you.
Give us all the information up front. Most people will ignore this kind of meta questions completely. I for one only answered because you made that common "permitting license for a logo" mistake.

Re: A website needs a logo
Your arguments seem to be very sensible, however don't solve my problem Ok, I agree the logo have to be unique etc, however I cannot pay for it because the website is non-profit. What if some day the logo author asks me for money which I didn't get, if the website is huge and so much recognizable?

Well, you don't necessarily have to pay anything. Just be clear about the conditions beforehand. Be also as specific as possible about all details (theme, style, usage, dimensions, colors... whatever matters).
A successful logo competition:

Re: A website needs a logo
aho is right, you'll get a better response if you don't try and solicit work privately - not that I'm suggesting using this forum, any public arena will do. And people might be a little more interested if you defined what FLOSS is. Some people might think your in the dental business
As for the license, you don't need to adopt a creative common license to not pay for something. You can negotiate what ever terms you like with the creator. Basically you just need to state that you want copyright ownership of the logo.

Re: A website needs a logo
Even if you get the logo designed for free, it will still have to be registered to protect you from having it stolen and used by someone else.
You could find yourself (though unlikely) in a position where you are having to take legal action to regain control of it.
Why not advertise a logo design completion on your site?
FLOSS???? are you giving away dental floss to the needy or something?
