My usual workflow when working with LPE's (Pattern along path) is to copy the pattern(path) to the clipboard, then selecting the skeletonpath and use the paste button in the LPE editor.
Today i watched a videotutorial and the tutor used the 'Link to path on clipboard' button in the LPE editor.
What is the difference ?
Also what is the 'Copy Path' in the editor supposed for ?

With the link to path option you can edit the shape of the pattern in a live way too.
Either by clicking the edit on canvas icon or by editing the linked path.
Programmatically it must be more advanced wizardry as it still works after eleting the original pattern path, unlike how clones work.

This is not documentend in Tav's manual, is it ?
What about my other question: how does one use the 'Copy Path' button ?
Re: Something i dont get about LPE's
Seems to work between paths with the pattern along path added.
You paste a path for the pattern in object one, draw various things further on, then want to draw in the exact same style even though you deleted the pattern path used somewhere in the process.
Then you select object one, click the copy path icon, then add a pattern along path lpe to object two and paste pattern path.
Sort of a "deep copy" that copies the lpe parameters/original path from the defs.

I thought so, too, but I found it:

The path can also be copied to the clipboard by using the copy icon ( icon ) in the dialog.

But that doesnt really make sense, because i apply the LPE to the skeleton path, not the pattern.
Re: Something i dont get about LPE's
That section is about the 'control path' - which, in case of "Pattern along Path" is the pattern itself, as far as I understand the principle. Maybe it would be clearer if it said 'control path' in that sentence above instead of 'path'...

Not sure im following.
So lets talk about any other LPE than Pap. Why does 'Bend' has a 'Copy Path' button ?´Or any other button than 'Edit on-canvas' ?
Re: Something i dont get about LPE's
It allows you to copy the bend path over to another path, so it can be bent exactly the same way as the first path where you copied it from.

Wow, this actually works exactly like you said :-O
Totally didnt know.
EDIT: its in Tav's manual but its easy to overlook.

I didn't before I tried it out yesterday, either - always something new to discover
And the fun thing is: Someone asked for exactly this functionality in another thread today - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20024 - and now I was able to answer

Re: Something i dont get about Path Effects
In version 0.91, there was a change for Triangle In/Out. It does not apply Pattern Along Path anymore. Now it applies Powerstroke. That tutorial was probably made before 0.91.
So instead of entering the width for the path, you look on the canvas for pink node, and drag to make it wider. For me, the pink nodes are quite hard to see. But look closely and it will be there.
You don't need the Path Effect dialog at all. Only canvas controls.
