tool palettes don't "want" to stay on top.

Postby InkCat » Thu Aug 26, 2010 9:05 am

I have the Windows preference for "Dialogs on top" set to Aggressive.

but if I leave, say, the layers window to work in my document, the layers window goes behind the active document window.

anybody else?

I'm using 0.48 on a Mac within X11

thanks

It works fine with Inkscape 0.47 and 0.48 on OS X Leopard 10.5.8 (Quartz 2.4.0) with these settings:
    Dialog behavior:
    • dockable
    Dialogs on top:
    • normal
If the Layers dialog is undocked, it floats above the main window, even when focus is returned to the canvas.
Minor known issue: when working with several document windows (opened from within Inkscape, not by double-clicking Inkscape files in the finder) Inkscape doesn't properly keep track of which undocked dialog belongs to which window.

It also works for me with
    Dialog behavior:
    • floating
    Dialogs on top:
    • normal
Possibly newer X11/Xquartz versions (on Snow Leopard) have additional preferences for window management and how dialogs or utility windows are handled?

X11 Preferences on my system are set to:
    Windows:
    • [x] Click-through Inactive Windows
    • [ ] Focus Follows Mouse
    • [ ] Focus On New Windos
