I was pondering whether to show you this or not, but I'll just throw this in.
I started to do a fresh iconset for Inkscape. All icons are made either from the originals or from scratch. I'll first cook up the monochrome version and then later check out for coloured set. I'll then release the whole SVG file for everyone to use and/or modify.
I'll try to post more updates as I progress with this, but as my freetime is a bit limited, don't be alarmed if this won't be finished, heh. I'll release the SVG in any case. ^^
Cheers,
- jP
PS. I have nothing against the original icons, just thought that this would be a good spot for me to practice creating UI icons with Inkscape. : )

I quite like the idea of having monochrome version of the icons Thank you!

Here's a preview of the icons (only a few finished, but you can try out the look and feel of it):

RM. wrote:Awesome! I have a question. I don't know how to replace the icons like you are doing. Do i have to replace the original ones inside icons .svg?
Just replace the file 'icons.svg', all icons have unique ID that Inkscape uses from inside that SVG file. : )
Re: New Icon Theme
Cooking up the color versions of the icons:
I'm doing this in three layers, the top is the color icons, middle one is the monochrome and the bottom layer is an optional shadow for the icons. The user can then select what to display on the UI.
Updated svg (unoptimized): http://loadusfx.net/inkscape/icons.svg ^.^

Re: New Icon Theme
Oh, I like the first color version, without the shadows. I love the simplicity. The current ones, while brilliantly detailed, I find the detail detracts from the actual symbolism. My only complaint would be on the spray icon, the yellow spray is a bit hard to see.
Wow, I'll be changing mine soon!

I see some are missing though, are you planning to make a complete theme or that's enough for now?
Glad you like them. ^.^
The goal is to make a complete set for Inkscape.
