One comment on the code, for some reason nearly all extension code - even the "standard" included with Inkscape - is without any comments at all,
it would be nice to see at least some docstring explaining the different procedures. This is a "standard" in other python code - all according to the PEP-257.
I must admit I have been writing code without any comments as well - coming back to the code after a year or two it's really hard to figure out what the different parts and statements are doing. Even harder to read others code - even if python is much better in this respect than some other languages.
