I am using InkScape 0.48.4 and I can't open SVG files. In particular the Tango icons found at "http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tango_icons" are all SVG files that Inkscape can't open.
When I try and open the file I get the dialog message:
"Failed to load the requested file ...."
Are the Tango files "corrupted"? Or is there a problem with InkScape?
TIA
Brent

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: Can't import/open Tango SVG files
Oops, operator error.
It looks like the problem is the way I downloaded the svg files. I used a download manager and gave it the url and it downloaded all of the .svg files. But what it downloaded was not the actual .svg file.
When I went to the download page of each icon, and downloaded the file one by one, Inkscape was able to open it no problem.
I don't know why each Tango icon is a separate file. It would be a lot easier if they were all zipped up.
Downloading the icons one at a time will be a pain. I'll have to see if I can figure something out.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Can't import/open Tango SVG files
official tango icons site seems down right now.
you can grab the icons @ http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/ma ... rig.tar.gz
unzip the file with 7zip or winrar then look into the scalable directory
