Hello,
I am new here and have not downloaded or used Inkscape yet. I have a new (Win 10) PC and am considering either purchasing the latest Corel Suite or giving Inkscape a whirl. I have a large number of old Corel (cdr ) files and do not want to rebuild them.
So, my question is this: can I import a cdr file into Inkscape, add, edit, and save it into an Inkscape file without losing anything?
Thanks for any advice.

Without losing anything is another question.
Sometimes Word N can not open Word N-1 flawlessly so don't expect too much from conversion from X format to Y format

Re: Working with CorelDraw files
Yes, this is new with version 0.91, that Inkscape can natively import/open CDR files. But since it is new, it may not have been thoroughly tested. And I don't know if this is true, but it seems like files made with different versions of Corel Draw might behave differently.

Re: Working with CorelDraw files
Thank you.
I have now downloaded Inkscape 0.91 and tried it. My CDR file contained 8 pages of various sketches. When imported it displayed the first page, but I could not open any more. When attempting to do so, Inkscape suddenly closed. My Corel is version 12.
I will work around this by only importing single page files at a time.

Re: Working with CorelDraw files
Sudden closing (i.e. a crash) can be caused by a number of things. One can be a huge file size. Depending on how much RAM you have, and huge file could be anything over 5 mb (in my experience). Or it could be something else about that 1 file.
Have you done any testing to find out whether the problem is having 2 files open at the same time? I've never heard of that as a cause of a crash before (unless the 2nd file being opened is huge or corrupt).
