How do I recreate this?

Postby Henry432 » Mon Nov 10, 2014 3:04 am

I'm trying to vector this bitmap but I am having trouble with some of the curves. Here is a pic that I edited, the places where I circled red are the places I need help on.

The node editing tool is your friend... add nodes as needed.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Have you tried Path|Trace Bitmap (Shift+Alt+B) ?

- load your bitmap image into Inkscape
- select it and press Shift+Alt+B
- multiple scans, select: Grays, Stacked scans, try maybe 5 scans
- Press Update and OK

On top of your bitmap image you get the vectorized image consisting of 5 paths with different gray-levels.
- Ungroup the paths (Shift+Ctrl+G)
- Move them to the side and select the one which you think fits best.

A better way?

Do you want to make a technically accurate representation?
May need a more detailed image to start with, or, even if more "accurate" redraw, the results won't be matching exactly.

Attached is a quick and dirty tracing over the key. Are you after a more precise copy?

WOW that looks really good. Is it possible for you to make a quick tutorial for me?

Here is something in a more accurate shape.
It's mostly practicing, not a special technic.

Cheers!

Here's a fast/dirty non-traced method.

Best viewed in Inkscape using the node tool:

Takes about two minutes to make from scratch.
