Hi,
I'm trying to draw a very basic building foot/floor for a lease. I have used the bezier tool to draw it, and now want to fill certain areas, but I'm getting "cannot fill, area is unbounded" I can fill shapes drawn with the rectangle etc tools.
I've (hopefully) attached it here.
Many thanks

Re: Creating bounded area with Bezier tool
without having fully understood the exact working principle of the fill bucket tool (Shift+F7) it seems to be a matter of zoom level whether you can fill an area or get the message "Area is not bounded, cannot fill".
So, make sure the area you want to fill is completely (or at least almost fully) visible on the screen. With this I could fill all the areas in your drawing.
I haven't found a clear rule when it fills and when it doesn't. Maybe somebody else can explain?

Re: Creating bounded area with Bezier tool
I seem to remember it only takes a certain amount of surrounding off-screen area into account... Here it is: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... Union.html. Additionally, there are a couple of known bugs related to the tool, e.g. this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1506715

Re: Creating bounded area with Bezier tool
Well, to make a bounded area, the end nodes of the paths need to meet on precisely the same spot. Or intersecting lines also work, although often we don't want the overlap.
Snapping is a good tool to make the ends of paths meet precisely. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... pping.html (somewhat outdated - let us know if you need additional info)
Sometimes zooming can trick or fool the Paint Bucket tool. And sometimes the Threshold setting on the control bar can overcome small gaps. But the only true way to prevent the unbounded area error is to make sure they are completely bounded.
And while we're talking about the Paint Bucket tool, if you see gaps between the color and the outlines, you need to adjust the Grow/Shrink setting, also on the control bar. Note that that's not a perfect solution, and you still will probably need to drag some nodes (with the Node tool).
