How to convert bitmaps and Jpegs to vectors?

Postby A.H.Vincent » Thu Jul 19, 2012 12:04 pm

I did a search on the forum but haven't fond anything...

Is there a way to do that? Like fetch a bitmap from Wikipedia and turn it into a stretchable vector?

Looked on the Wiki also but too many options...

Thanks,

Path menu> trace bitmap. search this forum for trace, autotrace, and trace bitmap.
Don't expect automatic great results. This tool needs to be worked with and learned. The simpler the bitmaps that you start with, the easier it is to learn what each option does.
Your mind is what you think it is.

Hi Drupan,

Thanks! Works perfect, do you think people would be interested if I wrote a script to do that? No need for any addon, just a one click application?

I'm sure some people would be interested, just for the convenience at least, but maybe you should work with it a little so you can decide what settings the script should use, there are so many options for number of colors, smoothing etc. I am glad you took to it right away, it's agreat tool!

To be honest, I'm not sure why a script would be needed, if we already have the tool itself. But then, I don't really understand programming anyway.
