Both CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator are now 64bit and have multi-core support, what about Inkscape?
As I understand it, since Inkscape is open source, it depends on which GCC options you set before compilation. I don't know the GCC well, but it seems to have some 64bit support.
However what about the download binaries? Do the Windows and OS X binaries support 64bit and multi-core? And what about the Ubunut binary?
I think it might be a good idea to include this sort of info on the Inkscape site pages somewhere. I looked and could not find anything.

Re: 64 bit and multi-core processor support in Inkscape
Hi,
I don't know so much about the Windows version, but the Linux version I use is in 64 bits. I suppose it's just a matter of compiling options but it could be more complicated, I don't know.
Concerning multicore support, it's still experimental. This is something I'm looking forward too, because I have a 4-core CPU and Inkscape currently uses only one of them… The new renderer that is used in the upcoming version 0.49 is improved in that way, and can use all CPU cores. I tried a development version last week and it was effectively noticeably faster. I tested it on a project I'm working on that has many object (some of them being quite complex) on several layers, many linked images and a very intesive use of filters (mostly gaussian blur, but some others too).
The problem is that this development version was unstable (I experienced many crashes) so I had to come back to the standard Inkscape 0.48.

I use Inkscape 0.48 on Ubuntu 12.04.

Welcome to the forum, tark1
All I know is that there is no 64-bit version, and that the 32-bit Windows installers works fine on 64-bit, multi-core processors.

Off topic:
(This may be entirely off topic, but there's another active topic about Inkscape running slowly on some Windows systems. Someone recently reported that increasing the number of threads in Inks Prefs > Filters > Threads, can help speed up display of filters. The setting itself is "Configure number of processors/threads....". Would it be appropriate for me to extrapolate from that, that 64-bit computer users could get better filter display by setting the number of threads to match the number of cores they have? Or do I have some definitions confused?? (http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=6026#p45271))Basics - Help menu > Tutorials

I answered to your post on the other topic that is effectively quite related to this one.
I use Inkscape 0.48 on Ubuntu 12.04.
