This is not a competition announcement per se, but Competitions seemed like the most appropriate forum to post (if not, please advise).

I'd like to invite Inskcape users to participate in a new site I'm setting up called PictorialMatter http://www.pictorialmatter.com. The site will feature a new word each month; the challenge is to depict it visually, using whatever media you like. The word for Feb 2010 is “Beginning.” The depiction can be literal, or an abstract interpretation; a quick sketch, or a detailed work. Submissions will be posted on the site, and we'll build up an online gallery of word depictions. It's meant to be a diverse forum where simple and complex works by designers of all experience levels can exist side-by-side. I got this idea from a vibrant site called WordIt http://www.underconsideration.com/wordit/ that just announced it's closing; I'm attempting to keep the challenge alive at a new home.

PictorialMatter currently accepts submissions in JPG form. However, I do my own work in Inkscape – I'm a relative newbie, but determined to grow, and excited to be learning the SVG format. If there's interest in the PictorialMatter challenge within the Inkscape community, I'd like to open the site to accept SVG submissions as well. Let me know what you think – I'd really like to hear from you and I welcome your participation.
