I was using Inkscape last year for a while and was able to change the width of the stroke on the freehand tool after drawing and selecting the line (there were two nodes at the beginning of the line).
However, I uninstalled it after cleaning my computer and just decided to download it again with the newer version, and that node is gone. So my question is, how to you change the width of your stroke? It's going to look very ugly if I can't have varying line weight throughout the piece.

I did, however when I'm selected on the stroke, most of the options are still greyed out, and I can't change the value of the width in the stroke style tab.

Hmm, the only way i can recreate the situation that options are greyed out is when the path has no paint.
