useless effects
useless effects
i did make a fine logo with inkscape, but after the drawing the program demonstrated the fact it is useless.
when saved as a jpeg (as needed for the internet site) the effects are gone just like snow in summer.
result, flat text and no use for the image.
did try to read it in adobe to save it , got the message " errors in file , no standard file , etc"
seems it's not free ware but bullshit???
is there a way to effectively use the effects or is it crap added to make the program look good?

Re: useless effects
lol a lot of misunderstandings here. Of course you can export the drawing "as is" or "as you see it on the screen".
It is always a good practice to keep the version of the drawing in the application native format, because this way you'll save most of the settings you used when creating the file. This means you should always save your drawing as Inkscape SVG.
If you want to open it in Illustrator make another file in Plain SVG format, although Inkscape SVG should also be ok.
When you need to use the drawing for web, you can export it into PNG.
Inkscape doesn't export to jpg format, it always uses png, but you should use the Export Bitmap option, not Save as...
Have you tried Export Bitmap option?

Re: useless effects
did try png when the jpeg didn't work.
no mistake , the effects are gone.
no shadow, nu blur, etc.
the entire set of effects just disappeared.
so"a lot of misunderstandings here" ?

As already mentioned by prkos, use 'File > Export Bitmap…' for high-quality PNG export.
Do not use 'File > Save as…' "Cairo PNG" unless you have a special reason (e.g. font hinting instead of antialiasing).
The file type "Cairo PNG" is mainly a test format for cairo-based export and only supports a subset of SVG features (no filter effects, no size/selection options, always adds a solid white background). Exporting a bitmap (PNG) on the other hand uses Inkscape's internal renderer and supports all features as displayed on canvas.

Re: useless effects
Here are some reasons for storing a drawing in SVG:
- The logo can be reproduced at any resolution.
- In the future, your company may want to change its logo. It's easier to pull out elements from a SVG file than a JPEG one.
Re: useless effects
have it in svg saved.
for answer on the "export " , i did try it , but the software just goes to "not responding" .
not an option either it seems.

Re: useless effects
did try it again to export , but the program just freezes.
another idea for converting incl . the effects?

Re: useless effects
In your export bitmap dialog, please check that you have selected a resolution that allows a reasonable sized bitmap to be exported. just to see if this is where the problem lies, try setting resolution very low - say, 35 dpi - and see if you get a successful export. If you do, then we can address the problem more knowledgeably.
When you set the resoution, the size in pixels of the bitmap to be exported is updated right next to it. could you post that size here so we can get an idea of what size bitmap the program is failing at?
in addition can you post the size of the svg here as well, although if you have a lot of filter effects the svg can be quite small and still bog down in the rendering. If you can post the actual svg itself we can take a much better look at your problem.
Good luck.

Re: useless effects
Maybe you're exporting a selection instead of the whole thing?
Win 7/10, Inkscape 0.92.2

Re: useless effects
If it is any consolation :::
My PC runs two operating systems:
When the installation was over, I regretted the install. Nothing works on it. I cannot draw a rectangle, a circle... I cannot zoom.
I am currently in GNU/Linux, but will reboot my PC and restore the older version of Inkscape.
You may wish to look through this list and select a different release. I'm certainly going back to 48.0 since 48.1-2 doesn't work at all.

Re: useless effects
heheheheeee
I discovered why Inkscape was working so weirdly! It was kinda my fault, and kinda not.
I decided to download the first Windows release of Inkscape and see if the problem happened there. Sure enough, version 0.37 worked fine. Then I upgraded steadily through the different version of Inkscape until I hit roughly version 0.44. Then I lost my ability to draw. It struck me as odd that 0.43 worked fine, but 0.44 was so problematic.
Then I spotted my goof. You see: I have a Wacom tablet. It's great in Inkscape when you need more precision in line drawing.
Leaving the Wacom mouse on the Wacom tablet while using my wireless mouse is not an issue in Ubuntu GNU/Linux OS.
Leaving the Wacom mouse on the Wacom tablet while using my wireless mouse is an issue in Windows XP Home SP3.
Inkscape 0.44 was probably the first release to support the Wacom tablet. However, Inkscape reacts differently in both systems. What was normal in Ubuntu was weird in Windows.
The case is solved.

Re: useless effects
does the tablet works fine in inkscape?
i'm thinking of buying one , but can't decide if it will be a A4 or smaller.

Re: useless effects
I don't use a tablet, so can't give any personal experience or recommendation. But I've answered and/or read many, many topics related to how to get tablets to work with Inkscape. They were all but one problems with versions pre- 0.47 or 0.48 (apologies, since I don't use it, I don't remember specifically). That one was solved, and to my knowledge, Inkscape now fully supports tablet use. Although as per BobSongs comments, there are probably a couple of quirks

The tablet works just fine. I made the mistake of trying to use two mice at once, one that was sitting on the tablet.
Bottom Line: Inkscape + Wacom tablet = fun.
Warning: It took me about a week and a half to truly get used to the pen. Experience time may vary. But once I was familiar with the pen, I used it for many things. I used it to move files. to start programs and so on. The pen is far more pleasant to use than the mouse is. However, that being said, the pen can be difficult to use when precise movement is required. Lay the pen down and either use the mouse that comes with the tablet or your standard mouse to move items 1 pixel at a time.
