I'm encountering a problem with the Windows build of 0.46 where I am unable to use any font other than Sans. I can see the list, but Inkscape will not switch to it. The list also features the alphabet preview, indicating that Inkscape is capable of loading the fonts.
I reverted back to 0.45, and that version is able to use my fonts, however I would much prefer to be using 0.46.

Re: Unable to change font in 0.46
I can confirm that selection from the font drop-down list doesn't work properly .
Please check if the issue as been reported and if not, submit one for it - http://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape (I would do it myself but I can't access the site).
As a work around, you can use the Text and Font dialog to change your fonts. Strangely, once you've changed the font using this method you can continue to change it using the font drop-down list at any time.

It's bug 168320. Changing the default font (using the "Set as default" button on the Text and Font dialog) seems to fix the problem.

Didn't work for me. I'm not sure this is the same issue as is reported in your link. You don't have to do anything fancy--you just can't change the font using the drop-down list in any case, unless you have already changed it once using the Text and Font dialog. Even then, as soon as you create another text block you can't change the text again so you need to repeat the process again.
I'll look into it further.

Ah yes, I noticed a bug report was already filed on this matter. Excellent moderation in here (I see), and an excellent upgrade too, I'm impressed!
