Hi.
I'm new here, I just got into using inkscape about a week ago and I've had fun following tutorials and learning the basics of how it works.
But now I have started doing some original work and have run into a problem.
I am doing a portrait, a face, and the hair is done using a lot of separate strands.
This slows the program down to a degree where it is almost impossible to use.
The computer is Vista, brand new laptop bought 3 months ago, using version 4.7
I suppose it might just be a case of getting more RAM, but I was hoping for a different solution.
What I am doing is building the hair, then combining the sections into groups once I am happy.
I am assuming it is all the information the program is holding for all the strands that is causing the problem.
Once they are grouped I don't need that 'single strand' info any more, but can't find a way to be rid of it.
If I could somehow make a permanent combination that looses all the no longer needed info than perhaps that would help.
Or perhaps there is a setting I have missed.
Also the program crashes a lot.
Should I try a fresh install?
Any help gratefully received.
Thank you.

Hmmm.
Done a bit of searching.
Making the hair invisible helps a lot.
