Any tips/tricks on drawing human hair using Inkscape instead of drawing one by one ?

It's uncommon in any form of art that each hair drawn one by one. Although Scislac did it :)

Do you have an example of what you are trying to achieve?

You could browse deviantArt for some ideas on how other artists draw hair.

It does appear that much of the hair has been drawen individually, in which case the short answer to how to draw hair like that is, "lots of patience :)".

If you want a little more detail, the first part is that not all her hair is drawn strand by strand. The bulk of it would be solid black colour and then strands of hair would be drawen overtop where needed.

The individual strands could be drawn tediously using the Bezier Tool, or if you have a tablet you can quickly sketch each one using the Calligraphy Tool.

Other than that, I don't see any tricks or shortcuts.

The last couple of times I've needed hair I''ve gone with lots of fine strokes with the calligraphy tool.

This is one of those things were having a tablet is a godsend.

My only problem with tablets is that when drawing in real life you'll twist the page so your strokes are at a comfortable angle. You can't do this with most applications that use a PC tablet. I actually requested a feature to rotate the canvas in Inkscape for this reason, but I don't think there is enough demand to warrant the work it would involve.

I am really sorry for bringing this topic up, but I just had to say THANK YOU!! The feather looks awesome! I never thought of using interpolation as a cheap (without purchasing a tablet) yet effective way to draw hair.

I helped someone a while back using a technique that I learned from Tav's Inkscape Guide. One can use Live Path effects to simulate hair too. Here's a link to my quick-n-dirty video. It's a little rough but you'll get the idea. ;)
