I was wondering what is the difference btwn these two as it pertains to inkscape.

There isnt really, SVN is where the source is kept, so when people refer to an SVN build rather than a released build they mean a current development snapshot. you can download nightlies from the site, or you can compile your own fairly easily.

capnhud: remember that a SVN build may be unstable - you are using a version of inkscape that is being coded at that time, so it may be buggy - but you get the added benefits of the features that are not in the latest stable release... (0.45.1)
