hello,
i am in slackware 13.1, i have compiled inkscape 0.48.2. When i launch inkscape, the window appears but i can't do anything i must wait 10 or 20seconds and after i can do something. Anybody has had this problem ?

Hhhm......for me, Inkscape takes about 5 seconds to load, and I can draw right away. That's for a new blank document, Windows 7, 64-bit, Inkscape 0.48.1 (stable). If I'm opening a very large image, it can take longer.

Unfortunately, I can't speak to the compiling part, whether that might slow it down. But it does'nt seem reasonable that it should take any longer. Could you have missed a step or something?

it's not a question of document size, if i maximize the window inkscape is frozen, if i resize the window too.

Mine also has very a slow start, and i have 4 Gigs in RAM and a 4 cores Intel i3, 4 Gigs in Virtual memory, but i open the inkscape and delays betwen 20 to 40 secs with a new document. Before, it started ok (1 to 5 secs max) but suddenly it started to be slow without slowing the hole machine.
I'm running it in a Ubuntu 11.11 with ext4 filesystem, sata drive and inkscape 0.48.2 from the ubuntu repository.

I can confirm the slow start on Ubuntu 11.10 Gnome Classic Linux kernel 3.0.0-12-generic. Clean install. Inkscape Inkscape 0.48.2 r9819 (Jul 11 2011) from repository.

Start up takes more than a minute. This is without a image, just a blanc page.
Worked fine on 10.10

I had a problem with my font-manager and all >7000 font where loaded by Inkscape. That was the reason for slow startup. Fixed it by reducing the number of fonts. Inskape now start fast again.
