Hello group,
I use inkscape to produce scientific publication format figures where in I have to import multiple TIFF images, graphs and label them. Upon compilation I have a habit of grouping different images and relevant text so that by mistake things do not move while working on other images. I later on save this in Inkscape format. The scientific journal required that figures be submitted in EPS format. While I thought this to be a simple conversion (File --> Save as --> EPS), I found that I was missing either colored lines in my graphs or the text that I inserted upon conversion. This was not the case with my file that had monochrome data. When the same file was saved in SVG format it would look perfect.
I thought of importing my svg file in illustrator to see if that was to make difference. Surprisingly when an svg file was opened in illustrator, I would see loss of graphs and data at random. Also the colored lines in graphs if were to appear would be thicker than what it was in Inkscape. So this did not work out either. After searching for an answer for this issue on this forum I was led in multiple directions but neither yielded any successful conversion. I was playing with inkscape and what worked was ungrouping of all the objects until it stops to ungroup any more in the sheet. Once this was done and file was converted to EPS format I could see all my data as expected. So my question to all of you is can some one please help me in understanding why ungrouping of all objects will yield a perfect output where as grouped objects will be an issue during conversion? My hope for posting this is to help others who might have the issue so you do not spend number of hours figuring the same out and under stand conversion process.
Best,
Gaurav.
