Hello! I am making a map about the Cartgainian conquest of Spain but I am wondering if there is an easier way to do this: I want to adjust the darker area to the limits of the land in the south and the east. Is there any other way of doing this apart from drawing it exactly over the border of the land that I draw at the beginning?
It's kind of a problem to draw it again following the other path (which is really difficult), so maybe there is a way of adjusting it to the other one?

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

If you want to keep the intersection of the darker, semitransparent area with the Spanish mainland, you'd need to duplicate both paths, i.e. the Spanish mainland path and the darker area (so you still have the original paths as a backup), select the duplicates, then do Path -> Intersection.
What will remain is the part of the map that is covered by both objects.

Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

Re: How to adjust a path into another path
Hi.
Use clipping.
By that solution you can add in multiple divides in the fill of the "land".
You only need to do is duplicating the land, group it with the overlaying path, move the group below the original land-shape, select both and set clip.
If you then want to make adjustments, enter the group and move the overlay etc. any time.
(On a side note clipping works even better on the edges because double path segments atop eachother produce a similar phenomenon like the infamous "anti-aliasing rendering gap" issue.)

Thank you all very much!
In the end I clipped it (it took my time because I was doing it wrong) but it worked perfectly, so thanks Lazur
