Hi.
Having this idea. I have several files that contains several common objects. That is, to make a second copy (use those same objects) I have to open the first drawing, save it as another file and THEN make any changes I want.
It woud be nice If I could export a grouped object to a external file, and being able to import it into another session (pretty much the same feature as copy/paste between windows).
I'm also thinking: When importing an object, there should perhaps being an option to "link" the object. Meaning that any changes to the object file would affect all drawings containing a link to the object file. That feature is to be found in t.ex Open Office - you may choose a picture to being a link to an external picture file = picture isn't stored inside the document file.
Thanks
export/import grouped objects
Re: export/import grouped objects
SVG is capable of this and I agree that it would be nice to have Inkscape support it. You might like to post your request on the Launchpad site if it has not been suggested already.
Re: export/import grouped objects
The inability to link an external SVG file is currently flagged as a bug. I have read it is only an issue on windows, and is currently working on *nix. If you want, search the bug database for linked svg image and I believe you will find it.
