Does anybody knows if Inkscape allows (or will ) to create strokes Adobe Illustrator art brush look-alike. Something like this:

I tried applying Bend path effect to a group of colourful lines, but the result shape was rendered strangely...

There is no 1:1 equivalent. Pattern to path LPE in 0.46 is more or less close though.

LPE has one significant limitation: once it's an LPE, everything's just one path with same style (fill/stroke/filters).

Is this a temporary limitation or are LPEs implemented in the way which will not make it possible to operate on complex objects? AFAI "bend" effect already works on groups, but as mefjuu has written - it's buggy, effect is applied to each path in group separatly which makes it unusable). "Pattern along path" could be perfect equivalent of artbruses from Illy if it supported grouped objects, and combined with spiros - it would be superior

Exactly, it would be powerful feature...
