Hi
After trying several other software forums without success I'm going to try here instead.
I wanted to make a logo for a Wordpress page, but couldn't find anything on line that was suitable. So I found this graphic (please see attachment) of a Roman Soldiers helmet and wanted to put this text CENTURIAN ELECTRONICS around the helmet starting with the C at the Nape of the kneck and continuing up and over the helmet finishing at the soldiers forehead with the S.
I know this is text to a path, but how do you get the line to match the contour of the helmet and then detatch it to put text on it before you make the line vanish then moving the text back into place around the helmet.
Any ideas.
Thankls a lot.
Michael.

Import the PNG and open a new layer. On the new layer draw the path you want with the Bezier tool. Type in the text and put it on the path, then move the path with the text on it using the Node Editing tool until it looks right. Finally make the opacity of the path zero. Job Done.

Thanks for the reply.
I've done as you instructed, but how do I tidy the line drawn with the Bezier tool before I type my text in.
Thanks.

Just a little headzup...
1) Roman soldiers were Centurions.
2) Rome vs. Sparta: Sparta refers to a Greek city, that logo is a Greek Spartan helmet.
3) That particular Spartan logo is a registered trademark of a US university that protects its IP vigorously.
So, if you're just mucking about, no big deal. If you're working on a paying gig (or trying to get one) little details like the above can make big differences.

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

Maybe also dont use black and white for the bevel, but lighter and darker shades of the basecolour ?
Plus get a better texture.
