Hi folks,
I am creating geomorphic terrain maps for a tabletop wargame and am searching for a way (if it is possible) to create a random or randomized tree/forrest pattern.
So far I have a forrest pattern, but as it is created as a pre-defined rectangle filled with small hand-drawn bezier curves, any resulting large pattern has a repeating trend.
Is this something that I have to be content with, or is there a way to randomize the shapes within the pattern in a way, so that the resulting pattern-filled shape is not basically a copy+paste matrix of small patterns?
"Random" or randomized patterns possible?
"Random" or randomized patterns possible?
WinXP and mostly latest Inkscape (unless stated otherwise)
Re: "Random" or randomized patterns possible?
I create a number of base shapes (trees in this case) just use the spray tool in the "spray clones" mode, (with randomization if desired) then use the Arrange->Restack extension to get them top to bottom.
Here is a snippit of a map I did this way:

Hi Rob,
thx... will check it out but I am yet to be convinced about this being viable for wargaming maps...
But will try and report back

Can you reference a sample image of what you are trying to achieve?

Re: "Random" or randomized patterns possible?
I would like to get the tree areas looking like on this picture for instance...
This might also be a repeating pattern by glancing over the picture, but if that is true, then at least it is a well-designed one...
