It seems like I only learn when I challenge myself, and this certainly looks like a learning opportunity. I am trying to recreate some logos that were made with Photoshop into vector graphics. The printing company we would like to use to print our team logos prefers vector art. What better excuse to brush up on Inkscape, right? Here is my dilemma: The images are of our team logos, the top part of each image is the original photoshop logo, the lower half is how far I've gotten in inkscape. Can anyone offer some tips on how to get the Inkscape versions to look like their photoshop counterparts? I think I saw a tutorial somewhere on Chrome text, so that one might be covered. What is getting me is how to create the "button effect" on the oval shaped logo, or the "raised chrome" effect on what we call the wings? Any help or direction would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!

Re: Recreating PSD effects in Inkscape: gradient, button, chrome
Well, I think it will be tricky trying to get them more or less identical, unless you can use the same filter. Inkscape has Filters menu > Non-realistic 3D Shaders > Chrome, and Chrome dark. I have found them extremely lacking when used on text or text-like objects, like parts of your logos. But they would certainly be worth experimenting.
And definitely if you're skilled with the Filter editor, you could create your own filter, or perhaps recreate the PS filter. (I've recently dived into learning the Filter editor, and find it extremely challenging.)(But once I get it figured out, I think will be really fun ) There's also Filters menu > Bevel > Button. Also not very applicable to text, but maybe on your green oval would work better? Definitely worth a try.
Other than that, I think just skilled and precise use of gradients and blurs, would be needed. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful....but surely other people will have more ideas?

Do they actually support SVG? I think what they asked for is eps, so you have to keep that in mind. This means you can't have transparency in your logo, and of course convert all texts to paths.
I haven't tried exporting SVG filters into EPS but you can achieve your effects with gradients (again without transparent color stops).

If you are going to eps I'd stick with manually creating the effects rather than filters, so the conversion is more likely to work.
Here is one of the swooshes I made.
It has 4 components... left side bevel with gradient fill, right side bevel with gradient fill, flat part with solid fill, and a black outline.
These techniques can create almost any 3d look.

Okay, that is EXACTLY what I'm looking for! If I can produce a result like your example, I will be beyond satisfied! Now, just to be sure I get it, let me see if I understand exactly how you went about doing it. Was it something like this?
You didn't really use a bevel filter right? It looks like you first offset the big swoosh to the inside to create the flat part. Then you created 2 new shapes, one on each side, that tuck underneath the flat part. Is that the key? I can't wait to try this, thanks!!!

That was it.
The two new shapes (on each side) have gradients applied to match your sample.
remember ctrl-shift-v pastes style, so once you have an object with the solour/gradients you like, just ctrl-c then select a new drawn object and use ctrl-shift-v to paste the style of that object. (I find it easier than going in to the stroke and fill dialogs, or using the eyedropper tool)
