Could I use Inkscape as converter?

Postby thisguy » Tue May 12, 2015 12:39 am

Hello, my situation is this: On my work the old emergancy panles should be change and to save money they want a DIYS solution. I have a program found to make the plans but I don´t want to start form the scratch, the program can use dxf files for import.
The question: I scan the old plans to jpeg/pdf, open these with Inkscape, clean them of the unnecessary stuff and export them/ save as dxf files.
Is it possible and will the dxf file useable or a there resrictions?

Hope someone can help me, i didn´t try it because it´s faster when the community can say instead work in a program which use only short for one purpose.

Thanks and sorry for the bad grammar.

Hello:
" old emergancy panles "... Do you mean those that you put on the stairs or halls, to point emergency exit, etc? Does they contains some architectural plans or similar?

- If you are going to "digitalizes" them... You HAVE to scan them in the best resolution possible. As they contains drawings...It's better to scan them as raster images I think (TIFF, BMP or PNG)
- There are other software apart from AUTOCAD, open source and/or free (as free beers). SO it might be better to use them if your final result are going to be dxf files
-Inkscape it's more related to graphics for the web or devices. Or Illustration, even technical illustration. You can use it either.

Is it possible to see what are you talking about? Pictures or photos of those "Panels"?
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
