Change Display Units

Postby Vitor Mazuco » Tue Feb 03, 2015 3:06 am

How can I change display units by deafult when I open Inkscape?

All time I have to change from mm to px in Documents Properties in Display Unit and Units.

Thanks so much.

Hi.

Open the "default.svg" file in your user directory.
Change the Document Properties to "px" and save the file - exit Inkscape and open again. Your default have changed!.

Where to find the user directory depends on what OS you use - Windows, Unix, Linux, IOs etc.

On my win8.1 system the default.svg file is in "C:\Users\ragnar\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\templates"

You can get the info from the preferences Shift-Ctrl-P - System tab under "User Config"

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

I've found the default templates stored in the folder C:\Program Files\Inkscape\Share\Templates where you can swap the default template for another one. Just rename default.svg to something else (I've done mine to default_px.svg as that is what my current units is) and rename or copy one of the other templates to default.svg. Open up Inkscape and the new template should be in use. Opening up one of the templates in Notepad or another text editor you can see all the default parameters that can be changed to create custom templates.

It's suggested to instead copy the modified default template for your language into your user inkscape template directory instead of messing with the original files (you can find which directory that is via Edit -> Preferences -> System -> User config (and add /templates (on Linux) or \templates (on Win) to the path)
Also, if it doesn't work, remember to use the one for your language, which is not called default.svg but something like default.de.svg (for German).
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!
