Inkscape won't run on OSX 10.10.5

Postby saulspatz2 » Sun Feb 07, 2016 3:09 am

I've just installed Inkscape on OSX 10.10.5 (Yosemite). I'm running Xquartz 2.7.8. I went through the procedure to get an unsigned app to run, and I got a popup that said something like, "Inkscape may take a long time to load, because it's caching fonts." However, Inkscape never started. When I try to run it now, I see the icon appear for just an instant, and then nothing else happens. If I type

Code: Select all

ps -A | grep Inkscape
at the terminal, all I get back is

Code: Select all

grep Inkscape

It appears as if the program fails to load, or perhaps loads and exits immediately. The behavior seems to be the same whether or not I start Xquartz before attempting to run Inkscape.

The file I downloaded is Inkscape-0.91-1-x11-10.7-x86_64.dmg

I don't know what log to look in, or even if there is such a log. I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

Did you reboot (or log out and back in) after installing XQuartz? This is a required step to complete the installation of XQuartz (otherwise $DISPLAY is not known to launch services and thus not to any apps launched via Finder or Dock trying to connect to the X server).

(Note: if you upgraded the system from an earlier version of OS X, and had XQuartz installed earlier (before the upgrade), you need to reinstall it after the OS upgrade).

Thanks. I just upgraded from an earlier version of Xquartz, and I logged out and logged back in. I'll try rebooting in a little while.

@~suv

I rebooted, and Inkscape is running! Thanks for your help.
