What to do now? [Maybe a comic strip...]
Hi there!
I'm new to this forum, so I decided to start by presenting you my new comic strip:
http://wtdncomic.tumblr.com/
(some of you could accuse me, that i joined just to get some publicity... they wouldn't be entirely wrong )
The whole comic is created in Inkscape, most of it just with a mouse. I do have a graphics tablet, but my hand drawing is pretty shitty. Would like to have some feedback and suggestions from you guys.
PS: Got to get used to writing on a forum and excuse me for my awkward English.

pretty cool sense of humor!
in "what to do now" - context; had a idea about maybe inspiring collaboration excluselively for/in inkscapeforum.com & inkscapeforum.it - a comic strip done by various artists; 5 - 7 pics in the strip (maybe more or less, maybe never ending; don't know); every artist does 1 pic in the strip (or more but the following pic should always be done by different artist); pics should connect in a funny way with (hopefully) a laughter at the end or - if there is no end - all the time.
could be fun?!

Sounds good to me. Start a thread and I'm in .
We could let http://www.random.org/ pick the next artist, so that the strips are drawn... randomly by the artists :p.

Re: What to do now? [Maybe a comic strip...]
could be really funny and inspiring, so here are some thoughts about how to realize this.
i would like to see a neverending strip in which everbody - comic artist or not - can draw a frame. random pick is a cool idea but to do this, everybody who likes to draw a frame has to sign for participation in order to pick artists randomly which is too complicated for me.
so here is the suggestion for simple setup:
- one big svg - file with pre formatted document size in usual comic strip dimensions
- every new frame should be drawn by another artists (or not the same which had drawn the frame before)
- in every new frame should be at least one element of the frame before (so everything drawn in the svg - file will be public domain to use)
if thread for this is started, there has to be some kind of procedure to avoid parallel editing of the comics svg - file and double posts relating on the same frame drawn before. suggestion for a pattern here is, that the artist who wants to draw the next frame actually has to post the editing in thread first, then edit file and add the frame, then upload the file so the next one can continue in the same pattern. as long as the artist (who posted the edit) is editing file, the next one has to wait until the new file is posted. there should be a deadline for finishing the edit / add of a new frame within 7 days (?) and if not uploaded until deadline next artist has oppertunity to add a frame regarding the pattern.

Re: What to do now? [Maybe a comic strip...]
I think it would be better if everybody would post just a frame, so that the guy who's turne it is would post a reply and than edit it and add the new frame. The overview wouldn't be the same, but it would make things easier... I think. If things go well we could than post all the frames in a tumblr.
But it's your idea so you're the gamemaster :p.

Re: What to do now? [Maybe a comic strip...]
You'd need some kind of story idea or topic to start with.
Re: What to do now? [Maybe a comic strip...]
I'm not a comic drawing person, so I won't be participating. Although it should be fun to follow! But I don't understand this:
[quote="ha1flosse]- in every new frame should be at least one element of the frame before (so everything drawn in the svg - file will be public domain to use)[/quote]
To my understanding, public domain is not dependant on the content. If the finished, or even ongoing work is to be in the public domain, it either is or isn't. If someone doesn't want their work in the public domain, then they simply would not participate....assuming that a decision is made for the work to be public domain.
What seems to me as important, is that each new frame have some connection to the one before. You wouldn't want someone to take their turn, who decides to start a whole new story line. But I'm having a hard time with the concept of characters. Since it would be a different artist each time, it might be hard for one artist to draw a character that was created by someone else....not unless the characters were simple blobs, lol. Maybe a story line where the characters are ameba??!

Also ameba as characters has potential :p, I think that drawing the same character in a different style would be the fun part. As long as it still bears resemblance with the original one.

Re: What to do now? [Maybe a comic strip...]
brynn, why not participate - this is just for fun and amoeba's can be great characters as seen in futurama's episode of mrs universe pageant.
everything in posted svg's should be public domain or cc license and free to use because at least one element of the prior frame (could be everything so it is not a requirement to draw the characters of artists before) has to be added in the following frame to connect. so participating artists should be able to use all objects of the drawings in the prior frame(s) and this is not possible if there is any limitation of use.
i agree to post frame by frame, but the post must contain a svg - file not just the png - render of the frame.
i'd like to see a minimum of restrictions or terms of reference as a storyline or something because there are more possible variations without (which could be really exciting to see how it develops, so you never know whats coming up next) and restrictions always bound artitstic freedom.
so before the thread will be started, any missing but necessary thoughts for requirements ?
terms of reference by now:
1) frames must be pd or cc license and in svg-format
2) at least one element of prior frame should appear in new frame to connect
3) have fun..
thats it?

Re: What to do now? [Maybe a comic strip...]
One note about using SVG format. Not everyone will be able to see them, if posted only as SVG. I would suggest posting the image as PNG, with accompanying SVG file.
At first I was thinking it should go in Competitions subforum, because that's where we've done a lot of practice challenges. But now I'm thinking either Finished Inkscape Work, since each frame will be a finished work; or perhaps Work in Progress, because in some ways, it will be a perpetual work in progress.
Except to complicate matters, file attachments are only allowed in certain subforums. Let me contact microUgly, and ask if he could allow attachments in some appropriate subforum, besides Help with Inkscape.

Re: What to do now? [Maybe a comic strip...]
you're right, its more a challenge than a competition (maybe there can be a new topic "challenges") but it would fit in competitions subforum also. i would prefer to start the thread there.
the new thread could be named "open comic challenge" or "inkscape comic challenge" as i would prefer the first because of the open source character how the source of the frames/artwork can be used (svg under cc/pd license).
the svg file can also be provided via openclipart.org for example, so its not absolutely necessary, that the svg-file will be attached by upload to the forum.
so here the terms for participating in "open comic challenge":
1) comic - frames posted within the challenge are under public domain or cc license
2) post of comic - frames contains link to svg - source/file of the rendered frame
3) at least one element/object of the prior comic - frame appears in the following frame to connect
ok, or is something importand missing in the terms?
