Hello,
I am new to Inkscape. First of all, I would like to thank the developers for making such an amazing program This is one of the best-quality open source programs out there.
So, I'm trying to make a spider diagram/mind map (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_map) for outlining European history. Inkscape seems to be well-suited for this, especially the Connector tool. I want to add text to connectors between two objects so that when I move one of the two objects, the text moves (and rotates, if possible) with the connector path. I also want to be able to reposition the text along the path. I can do the first part with "Put on path" in the "Text" menu, but if I adjust the position and orientation of the text after I put it on the path, it doesn't move correctly with the connector when one of the connected objects moves. Is there a good way to do this? Thanks!

Re: text on connectors
Actually I'd not use Inkscape for mind mapping personally. Yeah, it's possible to do it and yeah you can definitely make it look very pretty - but I think you would find specialised mind mapping software much easier and faster to work with!
Here's a good one that I tried out yesterday http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Download
This one is pretty popular and it exports to loads of file formats (html, pdf, openoffice document to name a few)

Re: text on connectors
Thanks for your reply, DannyKing.
I think more of what I'm trying to make is a topic map or concept map, not a mind map. I didn't realize there was a difference between them. I looked for concept mapping software yesterday and I found several excellent programs. However, I want to make my map kind of like a timeline, with a set spacial layout and other shapes like lines, and none of those programs were really oriented towards that. So I think I'll just try doing it with Inkscape. Text on connectors isn't so important now that I thought out how I'm going to make the concept map, and if I need them I can just put normal text and move them around manually when needed. But if anyone knows a good way to do it, I would still be very happy to know
