"Gear" meshing issue

Postby Brain Dawgs » Tue Sep 20, 2016 8:04 am

I'm working on a stylized project in which a larger sprocket gear meshes with gear that resembles a flower.

Are there any tricks that can get these two shapes to look like they convincingly mesh? I keep adjusting the width of the flower pedals, but without any method to this I'm just shooting in the dark. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try constructing the real deal first?

(There is an lpe for drawing gears but it is quite sloppy.)

It turns out that I was able to fudge it by slightly shifting some of the peddles a little (I guess I should've thought of that sooner since the peddles were more of an artistic thing rather than that of engineering). However, this should come in handy for another aspect of the project that I'll be doing later. Thanks for the insight! :)
