Hi Friends,
Well, I been working hard to learn how to use Inkscape for my own personal enjoyment. And I've made a lot of progress over the last year. But now that I'm beginning to feel comfortable with most of the basics, I'm finding that my work....how do I say this...it isn't very artistic. Especially composition is an area in which I would like to improve. I don't seem to have any trouble with inspiration -- there is more I want to do than I'll ever have time for. But expressing it in an artistically pleasing way is something I'd like to work on improving.
I've read the Elements of Design tutorial from the Help menu, but I'm looking for more good info like that. Can anyone recommend some resources that I might use to learn more about this, for example, websites, articles, blogs, forums. And certainly I'm only approaching art as a hobby, so it doesn't need to be like University level stuff. But I would like to get a good handle on the basics, or at least try to I'd especially like to find workshops that emphasize personal growth (as an artist), where I could present my work, as well as see others' work.
Does anyone have an idea where I might find this kind of information and/or support?
Thank you very much

Looking for something such as logo design resources, design inspiration should get you started in the right direction. But all of this just depends on what type of style you are wanting to develop and for what audience. This directory of illustrators is also pretty good for some ideas for what you want to accomplish. There is a turkish e-mag that covers many artist from around the world. This list could go on, but I think you get the point these resources that I have indicated once you get started with them will lead you to many other places that you may not have thought of.
And just for good measure there is illustrationclass

Have you tried life drawing dood?
Seriously... there is nothing more inspiring or satisfying than drawing the human form...
And it is something that resonates with everyone...
I mean no one will care if you draw awesome horses but if you can draw realistic figures or capture a like ness well people think thats awesome.... and it feels good to....
And in the process you will learn alot of the arty skills and confidence you may feel you lack.
And its not only about drawing naked chicks as you will generally improve your visual acuity in the process and become better at drawing anything.
But in the process of studying the human form you also learn the most coveted skill of being able to draw realistic body postures in many different poses ETC as you learn a bit of the anatomy along the way and this is useful for cartooning also.

Thanks for the input, David
I will certainly look for opportunities to draw human forms. Although you can be sure, there will be no "naked chicks" That's microUgly's department !
