Inkscape challenges?

Postby RM. » Sat Jul 03, 2010 1:47 pm

Hey guys how's it going? :D
These days that i'm drawing a lot, i thought it would be nice to make some design challenges with other inkscape users, even without prize just for fun.
For example we could choose a theme, e.g. 'draw a realistic apple', and admin will choose the winner!
Only one rule: draw with inkscape!

What you think??

I also think it's a great idea. I have long wanted to see regular competitions. Especially if they could be what I might call "learning competitions" or something like that. My thought would be more like a learning group -- just a group of people who want to learn from others. So there would be a single task for whatever given time period, and at the end, everyone would comment on everyone else's image - positive or constructive criticism only. Then they would choose a winner among them. Or there might be like a 2nd stage of drawing, where you try to improve your image, based on everyone's comments, before the choosing of winner.

micro did once try to start up regular competitions. But the very first one didn't attract much attention, which is probably why there haven't been any more. For me, I was intimidated by the requirement that entries be posted at the Open Clipart Library. But the forum was very young back then (just one year old). Now the forum has many more members, so I hope this will catch on! (I saw your announcement in the Competitions forum b4 I saw this -- I'm gonna start on my fruit as soon as I decide what kind of fruit to draw, lol)

Brynn, exactly my thoughts. I read some art blogs and forums where there are competitions everyday ( most photoshop ) It would be awesome to see something just for inkscape. :|

Wow, every day would be a bit much for me, and I'm sure for most beginners. I usuallly work on an image over several days, sometimes over a couple of weeks. I think I would need a week minimum, per "contest". And I wonder if every week might be too much, at least in the beginning?? Although for experienced users, maybe that would be boring?

In any case, we have to start somewhere, and I'm glad you're making the effort. Btw, I've concluded that a pear would be easiest for me, so a pear is in progress :D

This sounds cool, but if we could have a "CLONE of the week" contest or a separate "CLONE SHARING topic" that would be cool.. After all Inkscape is known for being the FOUNDER OF CLONING...
