spirograms color - 2 Samplers

Postby brynn » Sat Nov 08, 2008 7:30 pm

Hi Friends,
I've made probably hundreds of spirograms, using the Inkscape Spirograph Effect feature. Many of them I've used as a starting place for abstract artwork (and will continue to). But there are many, many more, for which I don't see any other future other than their own amazing beauty.

So I've used color to enhance their own innate beauty, and compiled them into what I'm calling samplers. (In the sewing or needlecraft world, a sampler is a piece of fabric on which one sews all different kinds of stitches, usually to display one's talent. In this case, there's not much talent, just manipulating the dialog to configure different spirograms.) I hope to discover more unique spirograms, but for now, these are the best.

One more quick note. In the middle of these images, I've grouped spirograms, which initially appear to be solid black. But after reducing their stroke width, incredibly intricate patterns are revealed. Around the outer parts of these images are spirograms which have the standard stroke width=1, and need no further editing. I reallly like the fine, delicate look of the ones with reduced stroke width.

I just made some more like that this morning, but will wait until I have several more, to display them all at once.

BRYNN: I am trying to create a spirograph based on the examples you have showcased as samples. I am working on a project, would you be able to assist? Would you consider this a freelance job and not a favor? Thank you so much. - Jamie
PS: I would put my contact info in this post, but I am not sure a forum like this would allow? If so, I can forward on my info. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to InkscapeForum.com!
I would be glad to help, that's why I'm here :D
I seriously doubt I would take money for it, unless you are talking about some kind of long term, contracted project requiring more than several hours work. (not that I consider it work, lol) But you can PM me with details. PM is a safe place to put email addresses, if necessary. I certainly will be interested to hear about your project, whether I can help or not. I really do love that Spirograph extension

Very pretty works Brynne. I also love the spiro extension and have been playing with them recently. In fact, I was looking for something new to do with them, and you might want to try this as well - I made a spiro, then colored it (black on outside, color inside), then used the Air spray filter, and it creates some great texture to use as backgrounds for banners and such.
I adore colors, so esp love the black background with the variety of colored spiros you did.

Thanks dee :D
That sounds like an interesting technique, especially if you use a gradient!
