Question about exporting bitmap

Postby chief80 » Sat Apr 07, 2012 7:46 am

Hi guys, I have a quick question here about exporting a creation I made. I need this image to be exactly 4096x2048. The reason for this is it is a "map" for a game called Hedgewars, and it only works if the PNG is a specific size. The problem I am running into is when I export it, since I have pieces that overlap the document borders, instead of cutting the excess off, it increases the size of the document to fit everything in. What I would like it to do is everything that overlaps the border will be deleted, and the document will remain the same size. Can anyone help me? Thanks :)

BTW, here is just an example of what I am trying to do: (Everything that crosses the borders I would like deleted).:

Hi Chief,
In the Export Bitmap dialog, you can choose to export the Selection, Drawing, Page, or any custom size. So if the page border defines when the object needs to be "cut off" you could simply choose the Page option. I guess I haven't actually tried this, but I would expect this to do just what you want.

If it doesn't, for some reason, then you could draw a rectangle of the proper size, place in the appropriate place, select it and the object, and do Path menu > Path Intersection. Or there's always node editing, which of course would be the most work and take the longest.

Here's my "Quick and Dirty" tutorial on exporting an image (along this very topic)

Here's the link.
