Postby smarty » Sun Jun 08, 2008 3:30 pm

Hi all.....I am new here so I don't know more about here.
I am facing a problem with .svg........I extracted svg files from .mif file and whenever I import these svg file in inkscape then message comes "Failed to load the requested file" and when I import these svg in adobe illustrator then message comes "invalid svg. validate it before using".
I am a theme maker of Nokia S60 symbian devices so when I import these svg icons into CARBIDE THEME STUDIO then message comes "invalid byte 2 of byte-2, invalid UTF-8 seuence"..........so please help me to solve this problem and I am giving a link of extracted svg file http://files.myopera.com/dsmarty/oplogo/svg.svg

I don't know what a MIF file is, but it doesn't look like you were able to extract a true SVG file from it. That file you linked to is not an SVG file.

Thanks for reply....first I would like to tell you that linked file was svg and it can be viewed in my phone or any other Nokia S60 V3 mobile... but not in pc.
For your information .MIF file has many .svg file in it like .MBM....
CARBIDE THEME STUDIO makes theme for Nokia s60 symbian phone and carbide supports all format like .png, .jpg, .mbm and these formate compressed into a .mbm file and all images and icon goes into a single .mbm file so mbm file is very easy to extract and there are many tool like mbm wizard gives facility to extract them.....but .svg files looks very good in a theme and its recommanded by carbide but svg file compressed into a .mif file and all icon and images goes into a single .mif file and there are no tool to extract .svg from .mif only a smartsis tool can be used in mobile to extract theme... I hope you can uderstand .mif..if you need .mif then tell me I will send you.

SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH AND REGARDS

I don't know what an MIF or MBM file is. Looking at http://filext.com/file-extension/MIF gives me the impression if you were to post it I couldn't do anything with it anyway. Perhaps someone else could though.

So you obviously know more about these files than I and whether you can get an SVG out of them. Having said that, the file you have linked to is NOT an SVG file. SVG files are plain text. Even if Inkscape couldn't open it you should be able to open it in a normal text editor and read the XML. But you can't because the file appears to be binary instead of text. It could be a SVGZ which is binary, but SVG is just a zipped up SVG file, and that file can't be unzipped either. Or it could be that the file has become corrupted somewhere along the line.

Note that just because the file extension is SVG, it doesn't make it a Scaleable Vector Graphic XML file. It's possible it is a completely different file that just so happens to use SVG for its filename extension as well.

Ye, it's neither an SVG nor an SVGZ. It's either some odd binary format or pure garbage.

Hi Smarty,
I completely understand you because I faced the same problems with svg-s. However I do not know either the solution. I am just glad to find someone with getting the same failures. ;)
I also extracted svg-s from mif but none of the svg editor programs could handle them. I was happy to read you because I had not known that at least on my phone I could view them. I even had questioned the correctness of the extraction. But now it is obvious that Nokia use a special binary/compressed file format.
I do not know how to break it up, even because I am not a specialist. I just wanted to modify the original theme a little bit (dots_mocha) without building a completely new one with carbide.
I have not solved this for weeks and I think it must be impossible (at the moment). In my case it would help if I could get that theme in tdf format so the carbide could handle it. But it seems also impossible.
If you ever come back here you may write me to (read backward): u h . n v t @ y t i t n e
