when I change the width of a text area, the letters become widther also... Is there any way to just redistribute the text instead?

While having Text tool active ( 
) you`ll see options on toolbar.
From left, there are Font, Size, Style, Alignment, super & subscript and finally spacing. At the far right, there are also two options for a text direction.
