Objects disappear after resizing it (Transform or manual)

Postby Mayday » Mon Aug 28, 2017 2:50 am

Hello.

I have ships ahead images in my file in A3 and I need to shrink it to A4 for the printing company that for some reason in asking that I send them the file in exact format for printing. But when I shrink the image using resize tool or Transform tool some objects disappear (not all) and I do not understand way. This is happening all the time on some objects and I made them in one session in same file in same manner so I do not see why this is happening. Help would be appreciated. I am using WIN 10, and latest Inkscape.

example shrink to dissapear1.pdf

Does it work if you remove the ships's strokes?
(i.e. select all ships, then set stroke to None (X in Fill and stroke dialog, or 'remove' in the right-click menu for the stroke color)
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

Are you using Inkscape to scale the image in a PDF file? Or do they start out as SVG?

If there's an SVG file of the "before" could you share it with us? (I don't mean convert it from PDF to SVG. But if it starts out as SVG, can you share it with us?)

There must be something different between the dots and the ships. But I can't tell what it is, with the PDF.

No, the ships do not have a stroke. And playing fill/stroke also doesn't solve it. I started out with blank new file in Inkscape and I draw all the ships in the same manner but some disappear after

I transformed them using scale tool. I can see them in SVG file but if I save file as PDF with all the settings attempts, some ships disappear.

Most of the ships *do* have a stroke. Just click on one, and look into the bottom left corner, where it indicates a stroke.
If you remove it, the ships export.
This is because of a known bug in Inkscape with pdf export of very thin lines.

So again: With the fill+stroke dialog open, select all ships that don't export, then in the Stroke tab of fill and stroke, click on the X icon to remove the stroke. After this they will export.

Or, if I understand the nature of the bug, making the stroke wider should work. How much wider, I couldn't suggest. Fully 1 unit wide should be ok. But it's possible something less than 1 might work. (I don't know how small the bug kicks in.)

This is the solution. I removed the stroke on some ships, transformed by 40% and those I removed the stroke are visible in pdf normally so that is it. Thank you so much. Now I get the file to the printing company to print my mouse pads.

Thank you!

Happy printing! (I'm currently waiting for a set of mousepads to be shipped, too ;-) )
