scaling text without diminishing distances in between letters, hello I am trying to do something very similar to the jpg here but with text and multiple sheets of paper of different colors.

When I currently scale down the text, the distance between the lasers changes at the same ratio obviously, how can I get the desired effect ?

Try each letter as a separate text object, and use the transform dialog with "Apply to each object separately" checked.
