issues moving objects in 0.48

Postby InkCat » Sat Dec 18, 2010 4:59 am

I have noticed that when I try to adjust size or position using the arrows on a selected object, the object behaves as though it's controlled by magnets and either snaps further than I drag, or goes back to where it was.

anyone else?

Can it be that it is very slow? If this is the case, hold the mouse for a longer time over the final destination. Otherwise you might have the snapping enabled and filled with some odd values. Press Ctrl+Shift+D and look if snapping is at default values.

they are all set to "snap only when closer than" and the value is 10

but, that seems to underscore the problem, because I was dragging these things closer TO some thing, like the page boundary..wouldn't they snap right to it, given these snap-to settings?

No. Only if you actually activated 'Page border' as snap target (default is OFF) on the snapping toolbar.

You can use the Shift key to temporarily disable snapping while dragging, or disable snapping altogether with % or using the toolbar button ;)

that is good to know, but it's not the cure for this particular situation...when I try your excellent tip, my object still wants to snap farther away than I drag it.

If you disable snapping, it will not snap at all, to anything. It is the first button on the snap control bar

Hi InkCat,

Any news? I'm curious about what might cause your problem. Please report back if disabling snapping completely solves your problem.

Thanks,

Does this happen with every type of object or are you by chance trying to move connector lines (either in a resized document or inside a moved group)? Can you attach an SVG file with some objects where this unintended displacement or snapping occurs?

Also, does indeed "snapping" occur? i.e. do you actually see the snap indicator message appear for a short time on-canvas when the moved or scaled object seems to snap?
