Is there any way I can preview my svg files before I open them?
So I can get something similar to a thumbnail gallery that we all use for photos.
I'm using Windows 7 64 bit
Any suggestions work arounds much appreciated!
Preview SVG files before opening?
Re: Preview SVG files before opening?
Welcome to InkscapeForum!
There used to be a program which would do that. But the owner/creator disappeared a few years ago, and no one else appears to have taken up the project. I actually have a file, which I would be glad to share via email. But it really only displays less the half of my SVG file thumbnails (in Windows Explorer).
Since Microsoft has begun to display SVG images in IE9, I suspect we will begin to see better support, if not with future service packs of Win7, then in the next operating system version.
Until then, what I do is use Inkscape itself. I just open a new blank document and click Open. Then I can browse through my files and see the thumbnails

Perfect!
Open -> select file -> click show preview, then you can scroll through the files with thumbnails!
perfect cheers!

Good tip, however you see only the SVG when you click on it.Ringster wrote:Open -> select file -> click show preview, then you can scroll through the files with thumbnails!
I'm searching more a SVG-Image-Thumbnail-Preview-Browser and on Windows I could find only IrfanView with a bad SVG rendering using CADImage (version 7.4.0.2, Shareware, third party plugin).
It would be a huge step if Inkscape would integrate directory listing thumbnail previews (Win-System). Please post here better alternatives.
EDIT: have found something more via this site:
Opera SVG Viewer (Widget only as Opera plugin?) - see Blog Opera SVG Viewer v2.0b5

Re: Preview SVG files before opening?
Well, since MS has started to support SVG with IE9, it's my hope that Windows Explorer will be able to display SVG, as soon as the next major operating system release. Even better if it could happen with a future Win7 service pack

Re: Preview SVG files before opening?
On Ubuntu all the SVG files have a preview just like any other image
Isn't there a way to hook windows' preview function to Inkscape's command-line renderer?

I use Inkscape 0.48 on Ubuntu 12.04.
