If you are looking for science and technology images in svg format then go to http://ian.umces.edu/imagelibrary/index-36.html. This site has hundreds of high quality free images in svg format. Inkscape can handle them and they are specifically for preparation of displays to illustrate science projects.
They are also generally useful for people who want svg images.
