I have an image that I have clipped with a rectangle which displays about 10% of the image.
Is it possible to move the image while the clip is still active? So I can change the part of the image that is visible without changing the clip position or size.
I know I can achieve this by simply unclipping and reclipping but I just wondered if there is a way to do it while clipped.
Move an image while clipped

Hi.
Yes and no.
I don't know of any way to do this on the canvas but you can change the position
of the image to show a different part by using the XML editor - (Ctrl Shift X).
Changing the X and Y values of the image part will move it in relation to the clip path.
See Example - the bottom image has been moved by the XML editor only:

Re: Move an image while clipped
If you put the object(s) in a group before clipping, the group can be entered with a double click and the contents of the group moved, without moving the clip object.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

IIRC, I learned that from Lazur, credit goes there.
Edit: even groups within groups works.

Re: Move an image while clipped
Wow nice trick, thanks, that is exactly what I wanted, you can rescale the image also.
It's also very good to know about the xml editing ability to change properties also, it might also come in handy.

This trick is covered at length in part 32 of my tutorial series: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11981
