Help With Effects

Postby rdowdall » Thu Oct 16, 2008 3:00 am

Hello

I am trying to use the Gaussian blur effect but I am having some trouble. I open a new file, create an object and select it. I then select the Gaussian blur effect from the effects->raster menu. When I click on apply, a dialog appears quickly and then disappears. I see nothing in the messages dialog or on the command line. The blur effect is not applied. This is on Vista. Am I missing a step?

Thanks,
Rodney

Raster effects are only for raster images (.jpg, .gif and .png images that you import into Inkscape drawing).

To blur a vector object use the Fill and Stroke dialogue, there you'll see the blur slider.
You can also access it through Object > Filter effects although that interface is a bit too much for a newbie.

Ah thanks. That makes sense. I was following a tutorial and it kept talking about applying a Gaussian Blur filter.
